📜 About & history
Tianjin South Great Mosque was founded in 1822 (the 2nd year of the Daoguang reign), enlarged in 1899 and completed in 1909, becoming at the time the largest mosque in North China. It occupies about 4,452 square metres with a built area of some 2,000 square metres. The original Qing prayer hall was destroyed by fire in 1967 after the site had been turned into a factory, and a temporary structure collapsed in the 1976 Tangshan earthquake; the municipal government funded a major restoration, and the mosque reopened in July 1980. It is a Tianjin municipal protected cultural relic.
🕌 Prayer & visiting
