Taiping West Mosque

📜 About & history

Taiping West Mosque in Taiping Village, Gugou Township, Huainan, was founded in 1879 (5th year of the Qing Guangxu era). After floods destroyed it in 1954, believers led by Geng Xixue rebuilt it in 1955 on the west side of the village, hence the name "West Mosque". Badly damaged in the Cultural Revolution, its three-bay prayer hall was restored in 1983 and the north rooms, ablution house and gate rebuilt in 1986. It now has over 200 square metres of buildings and follows the Yihewani school, with about 120 households (over 800 people).
