Shuncheng Street Mosque was founded in 1425 (Ming Hongxi 1) as one of the five mosques of Ming-era Yunnan prefecture city. Enlarged in the Qing Daoguang era into a rigorous, large-scale layout, it was destroyed in the 1856 fighting, rebuilt in 1880 (Guangxu 6), extended in 1927 and restored in 1979-1981. Its 5,445-square-metre courtyard complex centres on the 「Chaozhen Hall」, a Guangxu-era single-eaved gable-and-hip timber prayer hall of over 400 square metres, five bays wide and three deep, with finely worked window lattices. Today it is the seat of the Yunnan Islamic Association and the Kunming Islamic Institute.

Central Kunming location on Shuncheng Street, now within a shopping complex; reached by many city buses and taxis. Ask for Shuncheng.
