Qiucheng West Street Mosque

邱城西街清真寺
📍 Handan · Qiu County 🏛️ Mid-Qing dynasty

📜 About & history

Qiucheng West Street Mosque is in Qiucheng Town, Qiu County, Hebei, and was founded around the mid-Qing dynasty as the place of worship for local Hui. Destroyed in 1861 (11th year of Xianfeng), it was rebuilt in 1870 (9th year of Tongzhi), and a gate and lecture halls were added in 1898 and 1924. It was repaired in 1954; by the end of the Cultural Revolution only the prayer hall remained. From 1982 a new gatehouse and ablution rooms were built and a democratic management committee was set up to resume worship. The gate, with five ridges and six roof beasts, carries plaques reading "Mosque" and "Source of the Supreme Teaching"; the prayer hall bears an Arabic Basmala plaque, and north and south lecture halls with ablution rooms complete the courtyard.
