📜 About & history
Pingwu Mosque is on Qingzhensi Lane in Long'an Town, Pingwu County, Sichuan. A stele recording repairs in 1854 says it was "founded in the Hongwu era of the early Ming", and local Hui tradition holds that their ancestors came from Shaanxi and Gansu as soldiers settled here in the early Ming. It was repaired and rebuilt many times: in 1827 under Ye Wenhui, acting commander of the Long'an garrison; in May 1854, when the prayer hall was repaired and the first and second gates rebuilt; in the Guangxu era, when the enclosure wall and screen wall were built; and in 1925 and 1943, when the prayer hall was rebuilt again. The imam is Ma Guangxiong. In recent years the mosque has hosted touring sermons on frugality and on the harmony of Islamic and Confucian thought.
