📜 About & history
Mengzhou East Mosque stands outside the East Stockade of Sangpo in Mengzhou. It was founded in 1827 (6th year of the Qing Daoguang era) on 12 mu of land donated by Yang Baihai, Ding Jinkui and others, originally with a five-bay hall, a five-bay rolled-roof porch and north and south lecture halls - 35 rooms in all. In 1968 the main hall was pulled down and the buildings occupied. Rebuilding began in 1987 and by 2000 it had reached its present size of 55 rooms, including the hall, ablution rooms and two-storey lecture halls, on a 5,000-square-metre site. Its congregation of 1,150 bears mainly the surnames Ding, Yang and Lu; the current imam is Yang Huiyi.
