The Mazhuang Mosque is counted among the surviving Yuan-dynasty Hui mosques of Henan, alongside the Zhengzhou North Great Mosque and the Boai Daxinzhuang East Great Mosque. It anchors Mazhuang Hui Township in Ye County, a concentrated Hui settlement that grew up around the mosque during and after the Yuan period.
