Laishanji Mosque is the oldest mosque in Huainan, first built in 1619 (the 47th year of the Ming Wanli reign) in the Hui Muslim settlement of Laishanji, in what is now Xiejiaji District. It was expanded in 1872 (the 11th year of the Qing Tongzhi reign) with a donation from Yang Qizhen, a locally-born admiral of the Qing navy stationed in Fujian. The mosque's brick walls and tiled roofs are decorated with carved beams and painted rafters in traditional Chinese style, and it remains the historic spiritual center of the Hui community of Xiejiaji District.
🕌 Prayer & visiting
Open for the five daily prayers, with the main Friday Jumu'ah gathering around midday; ablution (wudu) facilities are on site. Modest dress is requested, and non-Muslim visitors are welcome outside prayer times.
