📜 About & history
Shanyitang Mosque traces to the early Xianfeng reign, when Hui people from eastern Shaanxi fled east to escape Qing suppression; by 1874 more than 300 households had settled around Bogeshi, Gulou and Madao streets. Following the model of provincial guild halls, the community petitioned the county and founded the 'Shanyitang' (Hall of Goodness and Righteousness) charitable institution and school, approved in 1874 and completed in 1887. It was renamed a mosque after the Empress Dowager Cixi bestowed the name 'Qingzhen' in 1901, becoming the Shanyitang Mosque. It was made a Henan provincial protected site in 2006.

In the old city southeast of the Drum Tower on Bogeshi Street; Kaifeng has no metro, use a taxi or map app for the nearest bus stop.
