Jinniu Street Mosque, also called the East Gate Mosque, was first built in the Yuan dynasty and is an important place of Islamic worship in Kunming. Its surviving 「Chaozhen Hall」 prayer hall was rebuilt in 1889 (Guangxu 15). Of brick-and-timber construction with a single-eaved gable-and-hip roof, it is five bays wide, about 19 metres across and 13 metres deep, with decorative bracket sets, carved lattice doors and space for over 200 worshippers. It remains one of Kunming's cluster of historic urban mosques.
