The Female Mosque stands in the middle of Yongchang Street, between the Great Southern and Northern mosques, completing Jinan's celebrated "three mosques on one street." It was originally founded in the Qing Xianfeng period at the nearby Yinhuochi site as a women's place of worship. When the Muslim residential district was rebuilt around 1992 the old mosque was demolished and a new one raised on Yongchang Street. Occupying nearly 600 square meters in a distinctive Arabic architectural style, its main hall can accommodate more than 400 women worshippers, and it is described as northern China's largest independent women's mosque.
