Founded in the Yuan-dynasty Huangqing era (1312–1313), Jianshui Mosque is one of the oldest surviving mosques in Yunnan. The gate hall was added in 1710 (Kangxi), the main prayer hall rebuilt in 1730 (Yongzheng) and the complex enlarged in 1762 (Qianlong). The surviving rear hall with 18 carved openwork screen doors is considered the finest woodwork among Jianshui's mosques. It is a Honghe Prefecture protected cultural relic; a larger new mosque was built nearby in 2007 to relieve the historic building.

Daily prayers and Friday Jumu'ah held at the newer adjacent mosque; the historic hall is preserved. Imam preaches in Chinese.

Local Jianshui buses to the East Gate / Lin'an ancient town area; walk to Randengsi Street.
In the old town of Jianshui just outside the East Gate (Chaoyang Tower); about 5–10 minutes by taxi from the ancient-town centre. Show the driver the Chinese address.
Halal (qingzhen) restaurants around the East Gate Hui quarter. Jianshui is a well-known heritage town, easy for visitors.
