Huangwuju Mosque

黄吾具清真寺
📍 Haidong · Dehenglong Township 🏛️ Chongzhen era, Ming dynasty

📜 About & history

Huangwuju Mosque was built in the Ming Chongzhen era by local Tibetans who had converted to Islam, and covers 1,700 square metres. It was first built in the style of a Tibetan Buddhist temple, with brightly painted decoration that directly influenced the later Huasi order's gongbei; repairs gradually removed these elements, giving it a traditional Islamic form. Its present palace-style brick-and-timber prayer hall is three bays wide and deep, with a pavilion-style minaret.
