📜 About & history
Hongshan Mosque sits on a steep hillside in Hongshan Village, Liushun Township, Lintan County, Gansu. Tradition holds that it was founded in the Ming Hongwu era (1368–1398) by members of the Ye family from the frontier garrison of General Mu Ying who settled here. Both the village and the mosque are named after the area's red-earth hills. It has been destroyed and rebuilt several times: destroyed in the 1929 incident, rebuilt on a smaller scale in 1936 and demolished in 1958. In 1986 Ye Sansan and others raised funds to rebuild a three-bay prayer hall and ancillary buildings on a 0.5-mu site, and six brick-and-timber school rooms were added in 1988. It follows the Ikhwan tradition.
