Hancheng is a historic county-level city in Shaanxi Province, known as the birthplace of the ancient Chinese historian Sima Qian, and home to a long-established Hui community that has lived there for centuries near northwest China's historic trade routes. Hancheng Mosque serves this community and is listed among comprehensive directories of Islamic places of worship in Shaanxi Province alongside the great mosques of Xi'an.
