📜 About & history
Haicheng Mosque is at 3 Huancheng South Road (formerly Haizhou Street), Haicheng, Liaoning. It was founded in 1664 (3rd year of the Qing Kangxi era) by descendants of the Jin family of Hejian Prefecture, Hebei, as a courtyard compound; it was first rebuilt in the Yongzheng era, recorded on a stele, and after enlargement in 1924 became one of the best-known mosques in Northeast China. Demolished in 1966 to make way for a chemical plant, it resumed worship in 1979, and an Arab-style prayer hall rebuilt with 110,000 yuan from the government and over 70,000 yuan from worshippers was completed on 4 December 1983. A moon-viewing tower, a stele pavilion and the Qing "Haicheng Mosque Stele" survive, and the mosque holds 150 Arabic copies of the Qur'an and 50 Persian texts. It serves 1,332 households (4,665 people) of the Gedimu tradition.
