📜 About & history

Gejiu Mosque, also called the Gejiu City Mosque or Gejiu Urban Mosque, is at No. 404 Jinhu West Road, Gejiu, Yunnan; it was first planned in the Republican era. Miners of many ethnic groups came to Gejiu in the Qing Qianlong era, and the Hui formed the mining district's earliest Hui settlement at Longshujiao Village, Kafang, where they built a mosque. In 1930, with the support of county head Ma Zhengguo, donations funded the mosque's prayer hall; in 1942 division commander Ma Jiwu, stationed in Gejiu, helped build its walls and ablution house, and the hall could hold about 300 worshippers. The mosque was demolished for city construction in 1954 and moved into houses on Renmin Road (today's Jinhu West Road); it was moved again in 1980 to make way for a telecommunications building and later, with city government approval, relocated on Renmin Road.
