The world's largest market for sanqi (Panax notoginseng), through which more than 90 per cent of China's raw material passes on its way to the big herb markets and to the 1,209 pharmaceutical plants that use it. In March 2024 China's Ministry of Agriculture designated it an official sanqi trading market, and it sets the price benchmark for a herb used to move blood and stop bleeding

About 8-12 km from central Wenshan; Wenshan Puzhehei Airport and the high-speed station connect Kunming in roughly three hours by train
💡 Tips for traders
Sanqi is priced by the number of roots per 500 g (its head count): 20-head is dearer than 40- or 60-head, so specify the grade you want; ask for heavy-metal and pesticide reports, especially for export; root crowns and flowers are cheaper but are not the same as the main root; beware of blending with look-alike roots, and have powder ground in front of you
