One of five specialist markets planned by the Zhangjiakou government in 1995 and the city's only designated grain wholesale market. During the Eighth Five-Year Plan it was one of four regional grain markets in Hebei, handling state grain purchasing and sales. It trades flour, rice and coarse grains year-round and serves neighbouring Inner Mongolia and Shanxi; in 2005 the city began relocating and expanding it, and it suits grain traders in northern Hebei.
