A specialist coloured-gemstone wholesale market opened on 18 December 2012 in Shenzhen's Shuibei jewellery district, with 6,000 m². It sells emeralds, rubies, sapphires, tourmaline, tanzanite, opal, amber, pearls and more as loose stones and finished jewellery, with design, setting and testing, and houses nearly 200 Chinese and foreign firms sourcing from Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Germany and Israel. Annual sales are put at about RMB 20 billion; it suits gem traders and jewellery designers.
