Civil Code (2021) product liability provisions provide: (1) Strict liability: manufacturer liable for damage caused by defective product regardless of fault; (2) Covered defects: manufacturing defects, design defects, inadequate warnings and instructions; (3) Liable parties: manufacturer and distributor jointly or severally liable; (4) Liability exemptions: defect did not exist when put on market, or defect resulted from mandatory standard; (5) Compensation: covers property, physical, and moral damages.
