WeChat Investment Scam — The Fake Investment Network Trap · Yalla China

🤝 Governing law: 刑法 / Criminal Law Art 192 (Fraud); 防范和处置非法集资条例 / Rules on Illegal Fundraising 2021

A foreigner joined a WeChat investment group under pressure from someone they met online and lost large sums. Is there any hope of recovery?

Illustrative, general educational examples — not real specific facts and not legal advice; for awareness only. For an actual situation, consult a licensed lawyer.
The situation: A foreigner meets someone on a dating platform or social network, gradually builds a relationship, then is invited to invest in an encrypted platform or stocks claimed to guarantee profit, transferring escalating sums until the account is closed.

Applicable law: The scam model known as sha zhu pan (Pig Butchering Scam) is criminalised under Article 192 (investment fraud) and Article 266 (general fraud) of the Criminal Law. China has arrested thousands of suspects linked to centralised operations in south-east Asia (Myanmar, Cambodia).

Typical outcome: Report immediately to the cyber-fraud centre (96110). The money recovery rate is very low because the gangs operate across borders, but China has invested enormous efforts in tracking these networks.

🎓 The lesson / takeaway

Lesson: Anyone who introduces you online to an unusual investment opportunity with a guaranteed return is almost certainly a fraudster without exception. Do not transfer money to platforms not officially licensed.
