Illustrative, general educational examples — not real specific facts and not legal advice; for awareness only. For an actual situation, consult a licensed lawyer.
In China: (1) There is no legal license for private investigation agencies - they operate in a legal grey area; (2) The Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL 2021) criminalizes collecting personal data without explicit consent; (3) Illegal use of wiretapping devices or hidden cameras: subject to criminal penalties; (4) Evidence obtained through illegal means: not admissible in Chinese courts (exception in some civil cases). In divorce cases: evidence of marital infidelity is admissible if it did not involve illegal entry into property or illegal wiretapping. Exceptions: background investigations through legal commercial databases are permitted.
🎓 The lesson / takeaway
If you need evidence in a legal dispute, engage a lawyer to identify permissible legal methods in China. Illegally obtained evidence may harm your case.
