Under the Regulation on Medical Institutions (revised 2022), any person in China has the right to emergency care. Hospitals are legally obligated in China to: (1) receive all emergency cases immediately; (2) not refuse treatment for emergency cases due to lack of insurance or inability to pay immediately; (3) provide interpretation services or interpreters in major hospitals. Note: hospitals typically require upfront payment for non-emergency services. Maintain valid international health insurance covering medical evacuation. Emergency numbers: 120 (ambulance) + 110 (police). International hospitals designated for foreigners are available in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

🎓 The lesson / takeaway

Always carry a copy of your health insurance document and ID card in Chinese. Research the nearest international hospital in your city in advance.
