Yingkou

Yingkou lies where the Liao River meets the Bohai Sea in central Liaoning and was one of the earliest treaty ports opened in northeastern China, giving it a long history of foreign trade. The old West Fort, built in the Qing to guard the river mouth, still stands as a reminder of that era. Today the city pairs a busy modern container port with the seaside resort district of Bayuquan, popular for its sandy beaches and coastal hot springs. Yingkou is also known for its jellyfish and prawn fisheries and for magnesium and building-materials industries. Its airport and a stop on the Harbin-Dalian high-speed line connect it to the wider northeast. For an international student it offers an affordable coastal base between Shenyang and Dalian.
