Tongjiang is a county-level city under Jiamusi at the confluence of the Songhua and Heilongjiang (Amur) rivers in far northeastern Heilongjiang, one of China's northernmost border cities facing Russia across the river. It is home to Hezhen ethnic fishing communities and a cross-border port, with a subarctic climate of long, frigid winters.
