Shanwei

Shanwei is a seaside city on the eastern Guangdong coast, part of the Hoklo- and Hakka-speaking Chaoshan cultural fringe. Its long shoreline includes Honghai Bay, known for clean beaches, surfing and abundant fisheries. The city carries revolutionary history as the site of the Hailufeng Soviet, one of China's earliest rural revolutionary bases. Local life centers on the sea, with a cuisine rich in oysters, fish balls and the herbal rice broth called caicha. Warm, humid and coastal, and connected by the Xiamen–Shenzhen high-speed rail, Shanwei is an accessible spot for beaches and distinctive local culture.
