Jiaxing

Jiaxing is a canal city on the Yangtze Delta in northern Zhejiang, midway between Shanghai and Hangzhou and famous for its water towns of Wuzhen and Xitang. It holds a special place in modern Chinese history as the site where the first National Congress of the Communist Party concluded on a boat on South Lake in 1921. The surrounding area is a classic Jiangnan landscape of canals, rice paddies and mulberry silk villages, and the city is renowned for its zongzi rice dumplings. Well connected by high-speed rail, Jiaxing is a popular base for exploring the region's historic water towns.
