Jiangjin

Jiangjin is a district on the upper Yangtze River in southwestern Chongqing Municipality, with a documented history stretching back more than 1,500 years and a population of roughly 1.36 million spread across urban and rural areas. Known nationally as the "hometown of Sichuan pepper," it produces about 70 percent of China's green Sichuan pepper and supplies the fiery seasoning behind countless hotpot and mala dishes, alongside its own centuries-old rice candy craft recognized as intangible cultural heritage. Higher education in the district is anchored by the Jiangjin campus of Chongqing Vocational Institute of Engineering and Chongqing Vocational College of Transportation, training students for the region's manufacturing and transport industries. Its centerpiece attraction is Simian Mountain, a national 5A scenic area of waterfalls, red Danxia cliffs, and forested lakes about 140 kilometers from downtown Chongqing, while riverside Zhongshan and Shiqi ancient towns preserve Ming and Qing-dynasty architecture. The district is also home to the Stairway of Love, thousands of stone steps built by a villager for his sweetheart, a story that has made the site a popular pilgrimage for romantics. A dedicated stop on the Chongqing suburban railway network connects Jiangjin directly to the city center.
