Ji'an
Ji'an is a large prefecture in west-central Jiangxi straddling the Gan River, historically known as Luling and celebrated as a 'cradle of talents' that produced many imperial scholars. Its most famous site is Jinggangshan, the mountain base where Mao Zedong and Zhu De established the first rural revolutionary stronghold in 1927, making it a premier destination for red tourism. To the north, Wugong Mountain is renowned for its high-altitude grassland meadows popular with hikers and campers. Bailuzhou, an islet in the Gan River, holds a historic academy tied to the Song-dynasty statesman Wen Tianxiang, a Ji'an native. Jinggangshan Airport and rail links connect the city to Nanchang and beyond.
