Huining county in Baiyin prefecture, Gansu, is one of China's most historically significant red tourism destinations. It was here that the three Red Army columns (First, Second, and Fourth Front Armies) reunited in October 1936, completing the Long March. The town has major memorials to the Long March. Huining is also famous for the extraordinary density of university graduates from this poor county — a phenomenon studied nationally.
