Guigang

In Guangxi province

Guigang is a port city on the Xijiang river in central-eastern Guangxi, sometimes called the 'lotus city' for the lotus ponds that surround it. It has a long history dating to the Qin dynasty and was an important inland waterway trade point. The nearby county of Guiping is home to Xishan, a famous Buddhist mountain, and to Jintian, where the Taiping Rebellion was launched in 1851. Local specialties include lotus root dishes and regional rice noodles. The city's economy centers on river shipping, cement, and manufacturing.
