Ezhou

In Hubei province

Ezhou is a small but historically important city on the Yangtze in eastern Hubei, just downstream of Wuhan. As ancient Wuchang, it briefly served as capital of the Kingdom of Wu during the Three Kingdoms period under Sun Quan. The mid-river Guanyin Pavilion, perched on a rock in the Yangtze for centuries, is a beloved landmark. The Wuchang fish celebrated in Chinese poetry comes from nearby Liangzi Lake. In 2022 the city opened Ezhou Huahu, China's first dedicated air-cargo hub, reshaping its economy around logistics.
