NIO is one of China's leading smart-EV startups, founded in Shanghai in 2014 and famous worldwide for its battery-swap technology. It expanded its lineup sharply in 2025-2026 to eight models spanning the relatively affordable ET5 up to the flagship ET9, and launched an all-new ES8. It runs the Onvo and Firefly sub-brands, and posted its first-ever quarterly profit in early 2026 after cost cuts. Abu Dhabi's CYVN Holdings is a major shareholder, giving the company strong Gulf ties.
