Kaiyi is a budget brand founded by Chery in 2014, later majority-acquired by Yibin city state capital in Sichuan. Its lineup grew from one model to four: the family Kunlun SUV, the tiny budget Shiyue (and its Chery twin, the Duomi), and the Xuandu sedan offered in both petrol and pure-EV form — a direct example of the brand's approach of selling the same car with two different powertrains. It has done notably well in exports, especially to Russia, Central Asia, South America and Iran.
