📖 About the company
Hongqi ("Red Flag") launched in 1958 as China's first domestic car brand, famed for decades as the state limousine of Chinese leaders, from the CA72 to the CA770. FAW Group relaunched it as a modern luxury marque from 2018, expanding into sedans, SUVs and premium EVs that compete with Mercedes and BMW domestically. It posted record sales of over 400,000 cars in 2024 and plans to shift its entire line-up to new-energy vehicles, with growing export ambitions in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Hongqi retains special national symbolism as China's official state-car brand.
