Founded in 1986 as a refrigerator maker, Geely switched to cars in 1997, becoming China's first private automaker. It bought Volvo in 2010 and built a global empire spanning Zeekr, Lynk & Co, Lotus, Proton and a stake in Mercedes-Benz. Geely Holding sold over 3.33 million vehicles in 2024, of which Geely Auto Group accounted for 2.17 million. Its Galaxy new-energy series, launched in 2023 with Thor EM-i hybrid technology, has grown explosively. Today it is China's second-largest car group and is expanding strongly in the Middle East.
