Zhu Huarong
A Chongqing-born engineer (b. 1965) who joined Changan in 1988 and rose through engineering and management roles to become chairman. He led the company's 'Third Entrepreneurship' strategy pivoting toward electric and smart vehicles through the Deepal and Avatr brands, and now oversees the 2025 restructuring that made Changan an independent central state enterprise directly under SASAC.
📖 About the company
Changan traces its roots to an arsenal founded in Shanghai in 1862, later relocated to Chongqing and eventually converted to auto production. It began building light trucks in 1959 and entered passenger cars through joint ventures with Suzuki, Ford and Mazda. Today it is one of China's four largest state-owned auto groups, with new-energy sub-brands Deepal, Avatr and Changan Qiyuan. It sold over 2.68 million vehicles in 2024 and is expanding in Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. In 2025 the group was restructured and spun off from parent conglomerate Norinco to become an independent central state enterprise.
