The National Bank of Egypt is Egypt's oldest and largest bank. It opened a Shanghai representative office in 1999, upgraded to a full branch in 2008 — the first Arab bank branch in mainland China. In 2017 the branch was approved to handle CNY (yuan) banking business. It focuses on trade finance and corporate banking, supporting Egypt–China economic ties.
