Niangziguan Pass, also called Weize Pass, is in Niangziguan Town, Pingding County, 40 kilometres east of central Yangquan. An important pass on the inner Great Wall, it is known as "the gateway to Shanxi" and "the ninth pass under heaven". The Mian River cuts a gorge through the Taihang Mountains here; the surviving Ming fort keeps its south and east gates largely intact, and the pass has been a battlefield many times through history.
