Mengda Heavenly Lake is in Mengda Village, Qingshui Township, in the east of Xunhua Salar Autonomous County. It became a national nature reserve in 2000; the 9,544-hectare reserve protects water-conserving forest and is nicknamed "the Xishuangbanna of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau". The lake itself covers about 20 hectares of clear water reflecting the surrounding peaks.
