The Longmen Grottoes south of Luoyang comprise more than 2,300 caves and over 100,000 Buddhist statues carved into limestone cliffs along the Yi River. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, its largest statue is the roughly 17-metre Vairocana Buddha.
