Jingzhou Ancient City Wall

荆州古城墙
📍 Jingzhou 🏛️ Historical 🎟️ Walking the wall is free; individual sights like Binyang Tower or Zhang Juzheng's residence charge separate fees of about 18-35 yuan.

ℹ️ About

One of China's four best-preserved ancient city walls and the most complete surviving southern city wall, running about 10.28 km in circumference and standing roughly 9 metres high. The site's history stretches back over 2,600 years to the Zhou dynasty, and Jingzhou reached its greatest fame during the Three Kingdoms period as the stronghold defended by Liu Bei and his generals Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, a saga immortalised in the classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The wall visible today largely follows the Ming-dynasty layout, rebuilt in the third year of the Qing Shunzhi era (1646), and visitors can walk its ramparts or ride a shuttle bus along the top.
