The provincial museum of Hunan, established in 1951 and opened to the public in 1956. It holds more than 180,000 objects, most famously the finds from the Mawangdui tombs including the exceptionally preserved mummy of Lady Dai (Xin Zhui), and reopened after major expansion in 2017.
