ℹ️ About
Huiyuan Ancient City in Huocheng County, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, is a national 4A attraction. Founded in 1763 under the Qianlong Emperor, it was the Qing government's military and administrative centre for the regions north and south of the Tianshan. The present town was rebuilt in 1882 and keeps the former residence of the Ili General; its landmark, the Huiyuan Bell and Drum Tower, a four-storey wooden building with three eaves, is the oldest traditional high-rise timber building in Xinjiang. The official Lin Zexu lived here in exile and directed irrigation works.
