Let Us Drink Wine (Li Bai)
Do you not see the waters of the Yellow River, descending from the heavens, rushing to the sea, never to return!
Do you not see, in the bright mirrors of lofty halls, the grief of white hair—morning like black silk, evening turned to snow!
When life goes well, one must drink one's fill of joy; do not let the golden cup sit empty beneath the moon.
Heaven gave me talents that must surely serve a purpose; a thousand pieces of gold spent, they will come again.
Cook a sheep, slaughter a cow—let us feast and be merry; we shall drink three hundred cups in one sitting.
Master Cen, Danqiu—
pour the wine and do not let the cups rest.
Let me sing a song for you; I ask you to lend me your ears.
Bells and drums, jade and rich feasts—these are not worth prizing; my only wish is to stay forever drunk and never wake.
Since ancient times, the sages and worthies have all been forgotten; only the drinkers have left behind their names.
Prince Chen once feasted at Pingle, where a gallon of wine cost ten thousand coins, and he gave himself over to jest and revelry.
Why does my host say he has little money?
Go straight out, buy more wine, and let us drink together.
My dappled horse, my sable coat worth a thousand gold pieces—
call the boy, take them out, and trade them for fine wine; together with you, we shall drown the sorrows of ten thousand ages.
