The Fisherman

The fisherman lodges by the western cliff at night,

At dawn he draws clear Xiang water and burns Chu bamboo.

The mist disperses, the sun rises—no one is seen,

A single creak of the oars, and the mountains and water turn green.

Looking back, the sky's edge descends to midstream,

Above the cliff, unthinking clouds chase one another.
