From Xiakou to Parrot Island, Gazing at Yueyang, and Sending a Letter to Yuan Zhongcheng

No waves, no mist upon the sandy shore—

A traveler from Chu, my longing grows ever more remote.

At Hanks Pass, the evening sun slants past the homing birds;

Dongting's autumn waters stretch far to meet the sky.

A lone city leans against the hills, cold horns blowing at dusk;

A solitary tree by the river, a boat moored for the night.

Jia Yi petitioned with concern for the House of Han—

Banished to Changsha, pitied through all ages.
