Farewell Again at Jiangzhou to Secretaries Xue and Liu

Who would have thought that my career would receive a gracious decree,

Yet I learn only in vain to drown my sorrows in drunken song.

Over the river, the moon shines bright as wild geese from the north fly past;

In Huainan, the leaves fall and the mountains of Chu multiply.

I take some comfort that my humble dwelling lies near the isle of Cangzhou,

But gazing at my reflection, what can I do about my whiteening hair?

Today, decrepit and infirm, I am cast aside by all,

Yet I am ashamed that you still send me off, cautioning me against the storms of life.
