Ascending Liuzhou City Tower and Sending a Letter to the Prefectures of Zhang, Ding, Feng, and Lian

On the city wall, a high tower joins the vast wilderness,

And my sorrowful thoughts stretch boundless as the sea and sky.

Startling winds wildly buffet the waters of the lotus,

Dense rain slants in to assault the wall of the creeping fig.

Mountain trees, layer upon layer, block the gaze of a thousand li,

The river's winding course is like my knotted, nine-coiled intestines.

Together we came to this land of tattooed bodies in Baiyue,

Yet still letters and messages are detained in a single town.
